Trois genres littéraires joueront un rôle important dans le tawhîd en tant que science religieuse :

La ‘Aqîda Tahâwiyya appartient au premier genre. S’y trouvent condensés, en formules plus ou moins brèves, les principaux dogmes de la foi de l’Islâm sunnite majoritaire qui se situe par rapport
aux sectes aberrantes. Le texte se présente comme un exposé d’ensemble des croyances des Ahl As-Sunna, celles qu’il faut avoir pour faire partie du groupe des Elus et pour être sauvé. Ainsi, tel article de foi est dirigé contre telle ou telle attitude hétérodoxe : l’une se positionne par rapport aux Qadariyya ; l’autre, aux Jabriyya ; etc.
